Colombia produces Latin America’s best stock returns over last decade

Colombia produced the best risk-adjusted stock returns in Latin America over the past 10 years, reported Bloomberg Thursday.

The Bloomberg Riskless Return Ranking shows the index of the Colombian Stock Exchange (ICBG) returned 70% over 10 years adjusted for volatility.

This is the highest return of the six major benchmark indexes of the region. The total return of Colombia was 1,606% just behind the 1,719% of the Lima General Index in Peru.

However Colombia had the third-lowest volatility rating which bumped the Andean nation to top spot.

Jose Fernando Restrepo, head analyst at Interbolsa SA, Colombia’s biggest brokerage said “The perception of Colombia is very different than what it was a decade ago. The country is in an upward growth trend and attracting new companies and investors into the stock market.”
