Colombia wins place on international aviation body

Colombia has been named to a seat on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the 2010-2013 term, according to a press release from the Colombian presidency.

ICAO, a United Nations specialized agency, was founded in 1944 and has 190 member states. The organization’s goal is to enhance aviation safety, security and international law, as well has reducing the impact civil aviation has on the environment.

Colombia is geographically important location for aviation, which “has led the process of upgrading the facilities and services for air navigation so that civil aviation is conducted in in accordance with the highest technological standards,” according to the Foreign Ministry.
