Colombia needs new strategy to fight drugs: UN

Colombia isn’t losing the fight against drugs, but does need to change
its strategy to combat the ever changing tactics of drug traffickers,
United Nations representative in Colombia, Bruno Moro, says.

“It’s a difficult situation. There is a capacity to re-invent the ways to maintain an illegal economy, so you need to try to be aware of this capacity of these criminal and illegal schemes to recover and fight better ways to combat them. There should be more collaboration both within the country and on an international level to overcome this issue. We need to think of new initiatives because the initiatives that have been promoted so far, did produce effect, but nothing significant,” the official told Caracol Radio Thursday.

Moro added that Plan Colombia is not the one and only option to fight drugs and called for additional strategies.
