Colombia names new adjunct ambassador to UN

by Pandora Pugsley July 14, 2010

Yadir Salazar Mejia

Colombia nominates Yadir Salazar Mejia as the new adjunct ambassador to the United Nations in New York, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.

Salazar Mejia is currently the ministry’s director of economic and environmental affairs, and will take up her new post on August 4.

The Cali-born diplomat is a graduate in Finance and International Relations from Colombia’s Universidad Externado, and holds a postgraduate degree in European economics. She speaks German, English and French.

The Foreign Ministry said Salazar Mejia had worked at a high-level capacity for the state for nearly fifteen years, during which time she has shown outstanding skill in public service. The official has previously negotiated free trade treaties with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Canada and the European Union. She served as financial advisor at the Institute of Social Security, and as economic and commercial attache in the Colombian embassy in Germany.
