Ministers to oversee Colombia’s local elections

Colombia’s government announced Monday it has deployed senior officials to oversee security for over 70 at-risk municipalities for Sunday’s local elections.

Interior Minister German Vargas Lleras told press that “the government has appointed some ministers and senior officials this week to travel to those departments. In each department there will be a minister or senior adviser, so that everything runs smoothly.”

The deployment of government officials in high-risk areas is part of the government’s “Democracy Plan” that includes the mobilization of over 360,000 forces to ensure security at the polls.
