Colombia assisted in arrest of Mexican drug lord

Colombia assisted in the arrest of Mexican drug lord Sergio Villareal, alias “El Grande,” Colombian authorities announced Monday.

Villareal, one of Mexico’s most wanted drug lords, was arrested in central Mexico, military sources told media.

The Andean nation was involved in the hunt for Villareal, navy spokesman Jose Luis Vergara said at a press conference.

The Mexican military backed the claim, saying that the capture was the result of collaboration between “agencies from Central America, Colombia and the United States.”

Villareal is the second major drug lord captured by Mexican authorities in the past two weeks, after the arrest of Edgar Valdez, alias “La Barbie.” Both men are thought to work for the Beltran Leyva cartel.
