Colombia lowers price of gasoline

The Colombian government gave in to the demands of a looming truckers
strike and lowered the price of gasoline by 400 pesos per gallon.

However the truckers will still begin a national strike on Tuesday to protest against the high oil price, despite the drop of the price of crude oil.

The drivers’ union also says the Uribe administration has
not delivered on promises of increasing freight fees paid to
truckers.

In reaction to the price reduction, the association of truckers labeled it “negligible” and said they would continue the strike.

Uribe’s announcement did have an effect on the public transport sector, which said that it would start talks with the government to avoid the planned strike.
