Colombia has the world’s fastest-growing smartphone market according to analysts.
According to a report published Monday from mobile app analytics company, Flurry, the Colombian smartphone market has grown 278 percent in the period from January 2012 to January 2013.
Colombia’s growing market beat out China (209 percent), the world’s number one user of smartphones such as iOS and Android, whose market has slowed and currently sits sixth behind, Vietnam (266 percent), Turkey (247 percent), Ukraine (237 percent) and Egypt (211 percent).
Countries considered for Flurry’s analysis were required to have a minimum of 500,000 active smartphone devices as of 2012.
As of 2011, China (293 percent) was the world’s fasting growing smartphone market followed by Vietnam (269 percent) and Colombia (260 percent). That year was the first time Colombia broke the top 10 in smartphone market growth ratings.
Colombia’s South American neighbors Chile(209 percent ) and Venezuela (182 percent ) also broke the top ten in 2012.
This year, China beat out the United States for the first time as “the world’s top country for active iOS and smartphones and tablets.”
