The index, released Wednesday, showed an increase in peace throughout the world and in 16 of 23 countries in Latin America.
According to the GPI, Colombia is the least peaceful country in Latin America and the Caribbean while Chile scored highest.
Colombia’s low score was mainly due to its high homicide and crime rates, political terror, and the country’s armed conflict.
The country did improve in terms of displacement.
The world’s most peaceful country is Iceland. The least peaceful country is Somalia.
