Colombia gets faster internet connection

Colombian internet users will, from August 1, be able to surf the web at a much quicker rate, due to a new broadband connection bought by the country’s Ministry of Technology, Information and Communication and the Communications Regulatory Commission, reported radio Santa Fe.

The new connection will increase the rate of download, necessary for watching videos and listening to radio online, from 512Kbps to 1024Kbps. Upload speed will also increase from 256Kbps to 512Kbps, making it easier to put photos, videos and documents onto the internet.

The changes will mean that, from the beginning of 2011, the minimum broadband speed will go from 128Kbps to 256Kbps, if it is coming from a mobile internet connection satellite.
