Colombia’s national soccer team has placed fifth in the most recent rankings of soccer’s world governing body.

he International Football Federation (FIFA) has placed Colombia fifth in the world rankings on 1186 points, according to the international body.

The only other Latin American country to rank higher than Colombia are the hosts Brazil — in fourth place — whilst Spain, Germany and Portugal take up the remaining top three positions.

Colombia enjoyed a highly successful qualifying campaign under coach Jose Pekerman to reach the World Cup finals in Brazil beginning in June.

The rankings mean little for the World Cup other than providing optimism to a team which has proven to be very successful. To add to Colombia’s sense of optimism for the competition is the continuing recovery of talisman and star striker, Radamel Falcao.

Falcao could potentially be scoring goals against Greece on June 14 during the Colombia’s first game in the competition, as his ligament injury has reportedly been improving.
