Hearings related to woman’s reproductive and gay rights with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) were postponed Friday due to the Colombian government’s absence.
According to newspaper El Espectador, the Colombian government said it was unable to attend the hearings that were meant to be held in Washington D.C.
Representatives from the LGBT and women’s rights communities had already arrived in Washington before realizing the hearings had been cancelled due to the absence of government representatives.
The hearings meant to be held with the IACHR were against Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez, who has been a controversial figure for several comments, particularly on abortion. The charges being brought to the AICHR againt Ordoñez are for “harassment and criminalization” related to women’s and gay rights in Colombia, newspaper El Tiempo reported.
