Colombia expels Venezuelans for taking photos

by Adriaan Alsema July 5, 2010

Colombia news - flags

Authorities in east Colombia arrested and expelled four Venezuelans who are accused of taking photos of police, army and DAS buildings.

According to DAS director Felipe Muñoz, the four Venezuelans were handed over to Venezuelan border authorities after their arrest.

Muñoz said the four women had entered Colombia on tourist visas, but that on their camera only photos of strategic objects could be found.

The photos were sent to prosecutors for investigation.

Relations between Colombia and Venezuela are tense as Colombia accuses Venezuela of supporting leftist guerrilla groups, while Venezuela considers Colombia’s military cooperation with the U.S. a threat to the region.
