Colombia’s 2011 exports worth more than $50B

Colombia’s 2011 exports exceeded a value of $50 billion, reported the government in their annual financial report Monday.

In a joint report the National Tax and Customs Direction and the National Administrative Department of Statistics valued Colombia’s total 2011 exports at $51.179 billion — a 42.3% increase from the previous year.

Traditional Colombian exports of petroleum, coffee, coal, iron, and nickel constituted 56% of the export increase.

The US alone increased its Colombian oil imports by 30.8%.

Colombia has signed five Free Trade Agreements in the last decade, despite controversy over unionist murders and workers’ rights.
