Colombia enters FIFA top 10 for 1st time since 2002

Colombia moved up to 9th in the official FIFA international soccer rankings on Wednesday, their highest position in 10 years.

The rise represents deserved recognition for two brilliant 2014 World Cup qualifying victories against Uruguay and Chile in September.

Jose Pekerman’s men rose to second in the CONEMBOL table with a resounding 4-0 victory over Uruguay and then a 3-1 success in Chile.

Their next qualifying fixture is a home tie with Paraguay on 12 October.

Colombia is now the third highest ranking country from Latin America after Argentina and Uruguay.
