Colombia defense chief begins official visit to US

Colombian Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera arrived in Miami Monday on an official visit.

Before meeting his U.S. counterpart Robert Gates in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, Rivera will visit Miami and Fort Worth.

In Miami, the Colombian Defense Minister will meet with Southern Command commander Douglas Fraser and Coast Guard Admiral Daniel Lloyd.

In Fort Worth, Rivera will visit the Texas National Guard.

According to Colombia’s Defense Ministry, the American defense secretary personally invited his Colombian counterpart to visit when both were in Bolivia in November.
