Colombia’s Women’s Under-20 World Cup dreams came to an end this Thursday as the semi final with Nigeria ended in a disappointing 1-0 defeat.
Bielefeld’s SchücoArena was the venue for this semi final, which featured two teams that had never reached this stage of the tournament before.
The match had been under way for less than two minutes when a horrendous error of goalkeeper Paula Forero handed Nigeria the lead. Ebere Orji’s shot on goal lacked power to cause much danger but the keeper failed to control the ball and allowed it to roll over the line.
The Colombians did try to find the equalizer in the second half and even hit the crossbar on one occasion. Apart from that moment, the Nigerian defense was solid enough to defend the advantage.
While Nigeria advance to play the final against hosts Germany on Sunday, Colombia now face Korea Republic in a match for third place.
