Colombia crowns first black Miss Bogota

by Leo Palmer July 15, 2010

Diana Mina, Bogota, Miss

Diana Mina, a student from the Caribbean coast, was crowned on Thursday as the first Afro-Colombian Miss Bogota, and will represent the capital in the Miss Colombia contest.

The 19-year-old beauty queen is a native of La Guajira, in northern Colombia. She moved to the capital sixteen years ago, and now considers herself a “rola” – native of Bogota.

According to Terra.com it was her delicate skin, spontaneous smile, penetrating eyes and the simplicity of her words that caught the attention of the judges.

Mina prevailed over seven other finalists to win her crown.

“History will record that in the year of the bicentenary Bogota had its first black queen but not the last,” Mina said, adding that she was “very proud to represent Bogota.”
