Colombia counts 118 swine flu fatalities

Colombian health authorities Tuesday raised the official number of swine flu fatalities to 118.

According to the country’s Social Welfare Ministry, the fatalities are part of a group of 2,521 persons who were confirmed to carry the AH1N1 virus.

So far, the virus has been confirmed in 27 of the country’s 31 departments and in 147 of the country’s 1,102 districts.

The swine flu was confirmed first on May 3 of this year. The first fatality occurred on June 4.

Health authorities stress the importance of individual hygienic measures like wearing masks and washing hands to halt the virus.
