Colombia congress to vote on yet another holiday

Several members of Colombia’s congress, untouched by Colombia’s relative excess of public holidays, on Monday put their full legislative might behind a proposal to make sure no one works on May 12.

On that day this year, Mother Laura will be the first Colombian canonized into sainthood.

The best way to remember Mother Laura is, seemingly, the assurance that as little economic activity as possible takes place on May 12, every year from now on.

With a combined 33 paid vacation days and public holidays, Colombia delivers a measly offering of leisure time in comparison to the big boys like Argentina and Venezuela.
