by Adriaan Alsema May 16, 2009

Colombia news - swine flu

Colombian Health Ministry Saturday said tests confirmed one new case of swine flu in the country.

With the new case, Colombia now has 11 confirmed patients with the
virus and 164 suspected of the flu, the Health Ministry said in a
report Saturday.

Colombia has discounted an additional 459 cases who presented flu-like symptoms.

The new infected person lives in Bogota.

The World Health Organization Saturday officially reported 8,451
confirmed cases of A/H1N1 influenza, a rise of nearly 1,000 people in
24 hours. The number of people killed by the virus also rose to 72
compared with 65 on Friday.

Last week, the Colombian government slashed tariffs on antiviral drug
Tamiful, which is manufactured by Swiss-based Roche Holding AG,
and its generic versions. (Dow Jones)
