by Adriaan Alsema June 11, 2009

Colombia news - Colombia beat Peru

Colombia beat Peru in a World Cup qualifier crucial to avoid elimination. However, Colombia failed to impress.

The only goal of the game was made by Falcao Garcia who, following a corner, received the ball via Cristian Zapata.

Colombia, playing in Medellin’s Atanasio Giradot stadium, were able to keep the initially defensive Peruvians at a distance until the last 20 minutes of the second half when the visiting team started attacking and serious cracks started showing in the Colombian defense, giving the Peruvians serious chances.

Despite a series of attacks and four minutes extra time, the visiting team was not able to score, allowing Colombia to celebrate the full three points.
