Colombia backs re-election of Organization of American States head

Colombia will support the re-election of the secretary general of the Organization of American States, Jose Miguel Insulza, Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez announced Thursday.

Bermudez announced Colombia’s backing of the Chilean official in a television interview, adding that there are no other candidates in the running for the role at the moment.

The OAS set March 24 as the date for the internal vote to elect its next secretary general.

Insulza is nearing the end of his five year term, which he began in May 2005.
