Colombian army kills ‘French journalist’s kidnapper’

A longstanding member of the FARC who allegedly was involved in the kidnapping of French journalist Romeo Langlois has been killed, the army said Thursday.

According to the army, “El Indio Jailer”, one of the commanders of the FARC’s 15th Front, was shot and killed in combat. The battle allegedly took place the municipality of Morelia, located in the southern province of Caqueta.

The army aid El Indio Jailer spent 14 years in the ranks of the guerrillas, during which time he was accused of participating in the kidnapping of Langlois.

Langlois was captured by FARC on April 28 and held captive for 33 days.

The army also confirmed that troops from Joint Task Force Omega are continuing their offensive against FARC’s Eastern and Southern Blocs.
