Colombia appoints ambassador to Canada

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Wednesday appointed Clemencia Forero Ucros as ambassador to Canada.

The new ambassador was instructed by the president to “consolidate the good economic, trade and diplomatic relations” with Canada, the website of Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

“Clemencia Forero is going to a country with which we have increasingly important relations,” Santos said.

Colombia and Canada recently signed a free trade agreement, which was ratified by the countries’ Congresses and is now being reviewed by Colombia’s constitutional court.
