Colombia and USA tied after Davis Cup day 1

by Jonathan Roorda September 17, 2010

Colombia news - Sam Querrey

Colombia and the United States are tied 1-1 in their Davis Cup play-off meeting, which is being played in Bogota this weekend.

Alejandro Falla opened the Davis Cup encounter in Friday’s first match with USA’s Mardy Fish. After winning the opening set, Falla lost the next two.

The Colombian then restored the balance by winning the fourth set 6-3 but Fish had the final say, winning the fifth 4-6.

With Falla losing the opening match, pressure was on Santiago Giraldo to beat Sam Querry later on Friday.

And Giraldo dominated from the start, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 and 7-5.

Colombia and the USA will play their double match on Saturday, with another two single matches scheduled for Sunday. The winner of this encounter will play in next year’s Davis Cup World Group.
