Colombia and Ecuador sign marine border agreement

 

Colombia and Ecuador have agreed on a marine border, after years of uncertainty, reported Radio Caracol Friday.

The border will run through the zone where mouth of the Mataje River, which crosses both countries,’ meets the Pacific Ocean.

The agreement, which will be signed in coming weeks by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and his Ecuadorean counterpart Rafael Correa in the coming weeks, was made during a meeting between the countries’ foreign ministers Thursday.

Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño said, “It is a clearly defined political solution, determined by both countries to find solutions without many complications and to have clear coordinates in this neighboring zone.”

Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin added that the possibility of taking the issue of illegal mining to the Community of Andean Nations had also been discussed.
