Colombia advance to semi finals at Under-17 World Cup

Colombia are through to the semi-finals of the Under-17 World Cup, beating Turkey on penalties after the two sides had drawn 1-1.

Things didn’t start well for Colombia as Muhammet Demir headed the Turks to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.

But the Colombians gave it their all to fight their way back into the game while their opponents mostly focused on defense throughout the remainder of the match.

Colombia’s reward came in the final minute of regular time, as a long ball from midfield was headed over goalkeeper Mehmet by Jorge Ramos. The 17-year-old of Real Cartagena made his entrance only four minutes earlier.

No more goals were scored in regular time, although Colombia dominated until the final whistle.

In the penalty shoot-out, all Colombians scored while Turkey’s Furkan sent his spot kick over the cross bar.

Colombia play their semi final in the Nigerian city of Lagos on Thursday, against the winner of the quarter final between Switzerland and Italy.
