Colombia admits problems with security forces

Colombia’s security forces are still violating human rights, Defense
Minister Juan Manuel Santos admitted Monday, “but we are in the process
of improving and resolving,” he told United Nations High Commissioner
for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay.

In a meeting with the High Commissioner, Santos “acknowledged we still have problems.”

The Defense Minister handed the UN official a comprehensive report of the instruction and training about human rights all members of the security forces receive.

Santos also informed Pillay about the investigation into the disappearance and death of young men from poor areas in Bogotá and the town of Soacha.
