Coca-Cola Femsa said Tuesday that it will create Colombia’s seventh bottling plant, an industrial park and over a hundred new jobs in 2014.
Two years after Coca-Cola Femsa’s announcement to build a bottling plant in Tocancipa in the Cundinamarca department, construction is scheduled to begin and a date of completion has been set.
The mega-bottling-plant is set to be up and running at the end of 2014 and will be at the heart of the planned Femsa Industrial Park, the first cluster of soft drink companies in Colombia.
The bottling plant itself with require a US $200 million investment and the first phase of construction alone is expected to generate 150 jobs in addition to the 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in existence in Colombia from Femsa today.
There will be at least five additional companies established in the park that are direct Femsa subsidiaries and potentially more that are affiliated with other segments of the beverage industry.
The bottling plant will put Colombia third behind the Philippines and Mexico for the most Coca-Cola Femsa bottlers.
Last year, Coca-Cola Femsa had sales of $981 million and aim to have $1 billion this year. This would still place Femsa second to Postobon, one of Colombia’s largest beverage companies with sales in 2012 of $1.1 billion and projected sales of $1.2 billion for 2013.
