CM& poll: Santos regains lead on Mockus

Uribista candidate Juan Manuel Santos regained his virtual lead on his main opponent, the Green Party’s Antanas Mockus, in the latest poll by newscast CM&. However, if a second round of elections were held tomorrow, the candidates would be tied.

According to CM&, Santos can count on the support of 38% of the voters, with Mockus now two points behind on 36%. In a second round, both candidates would have the support of 47% of interviewees.

It is the first time in weeks that Santos has had a clear lead in the CM& poll, after the “Green Wave” that spectacularly pushed Mockus to the lead of the polls. In a poll published Friday last week Santos also held the lead.

While the Uribista candidate is extending his lead on the Green candidate, both hopefuls are stealing votes from the remaining candidates.

Second runner-up in the poll, Noemi Sanin, lost two points and now has 9% voter support, Gustavo Petro and German Vargas Lleras have 4% and Liberal Party leader Rafael Pardo 3%. All other candidates receive less than 1%.

Colombia’s presidential elections will be held on May 30.
