Civilians caught in fighting between FARC and police; three dead

At least three civilians died and 18 were injured Sunday in the north
of the Cauca department when FARC guerrillas attacked the local police.

According to local media, FARC guerrillas, dressed as soldiers, opened fire on the police who were conducting a routine search of those who were trying to enter the town.

During the battle, rebels from outside the town launched a grenade that hit a local shop where a number of people were hiding from the fighting.

Eight of the injured civilians are still in critical condition.

Police and army say they took control of the town after the attack.
