Colombian group ChocQuibTown, who fuse hip-hop and Cuban sounds with Pacific folk music, made it onto a list of the top five albums of 2010 by influential Washington Post music writer, Chris Richards.
“Genre-mashing Colombian party-starters make the planet feel smaller and bigger at the same time,” Richards says on his blog.
Innovative Colombian bands are getting more and more exposure in the world of contemporary music, with Bomba Estereo named “best band in the world” by MTV show, Iggy.
Coming off the release of a very well received new album, which the Guardian described as “an entertaining, upbeat and varied dance album that effortlessly switches between different folk material that has survived since slavery days,” ChocQuibTown are currently making their way through the festivals of Europe.
Having played at the legendary Glastonbury festival in England last week they will now go on to energize crowds in eight European countries over the next few weeks.
