Chinese defense minister to visit Colombia

China’s Defense Minister Liang Guanglie will travel to Colombia as part of an “official goodwill visit.”

The official will meet with his Colombian counterpart Rodrigo Rivera, and will also visit Mexico and Brazil.

Guanglie left Beijing Monday, and will travel first to Mexico.

Colombia and China have been developing their ties in recent years, and Colombia’s exports to the Asian nation soared 490% in the first two months of 2010 compared with the same period of the previous year.

The two countries signed a “memorandum of understanding” in July to boost Chinese tourism to Colombia.
