Chile is interested in helping to expedite the signing of the FTA
between the United States and Colombia, Chilean foreign minister
Mariano Fernandez announced. Chile and Colombia signed their Free Trade
Agreement this Monday in Bogota.

The FTA between Colombia and Chile is the “most profound agreement signed by Chile with a South American country”, Fernandez said. “It is a qualitative and quantitative leap in bilateral relations and a reaffirmation of our commitment to free trade.”

Colombian President Uribe explained that the FTA is a “cutting-age agreement because it includes fields of commerce, services, government’s purchase and investment”.

Chile already has a FTA with the United States. Fernandez said that he was an ambassador in Washington for three years and this will allow him to help expediting the signing of the FTA between Colombia and the U.S.
