Children of Cali cartel boss arrested

Cali authorities arrested three children of former boss of the Cali
Cartel, Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela, local media reported Wednesday.

The son and two daughters were arrested early Wednesday morning in the north of Cali as part of a large police operation. More than 38 people were taken into custody.

The Rodríguez Orejuela family members were arrested for allegedly not having handed over assets that was part of a deal with U.S. anti-narcotics agency DEA. The DEA collaborated with Colombian police in the operation.

During the so-called operation ‘Second Generation’ authorities seized properties that belonged to the Rodríguez family and allegedly include 650 stocks of Cali football club América de Cali.

Rodríguez Orejuela, who founded the Cali cartel with his brother Miguel and José Santacruz Londoño in the 1970’s, is serving a 30-year prison sentence in the United States fodrug trafficking.
