Chicó crash to defeat at Universidad in Copa Libertadores

by Jonathan Roorda April 9, 2009

Colombia news - Chico Universidad

Boyacá Chicó are no longer on course for a spot in the second round of
the Copa Libertadores following a disappointing 3-0 defeat at
Universidad de Chile.

Having beaten the Chileans 3-0 themselves when the two sides met in Tunja on March 18th, Chicó were expected to try and earn another three points in Santiago.

But the Colombians never stood a chance in Chile. Emilio Hernández gave the home side a deserved lead on 22 minutes and Juan Manuel Olivera added a second shortly after the interval.

Nelson Cuevas netted a third deep into injury time, setting the final score to 3-0.

As such, Universidad move into second place in Group 7 with seven points from four games. Chicó have one point less. Brazilian giants Gremio lead with 10 points.
