Chavez expresses solidarity with Colombian rain victims

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has expressed his sympathy for victims of the heavy rains that have been wreaking havoc throughout Colombia over the past year, reported El Espectador.

“You have our [Venezuela’s] solidarity and support from us all,” said Chavez, speaking at the He added that he spoke with Santos recently and regretted that Colombia was the country that had been most affected by the “La Nina” phenomenon.

In the same speech, Chavez also stated that his government has been reviewing the living situation of more than 130,000 people left homeless in Venezuela by the heavy rains at the end of 2010, mainly along the country’s border with Colombia.

The heavy rains from both last year’s wet season and this year’s have so far affected over 3 million Colombians, killing 418.
