Catholic Church to coordinate hostage releases

In recent meetings with Senator Piedad Cordoba, and the Uribe Government, it has been decided that the Colombia’s Catholic Church will lead the rapprochement with the FARC to facilitate the delivery of hostages or to start a possible humanitarian agreement process.

Monsignor Juan Vicente Cordoba, secretary of the Episcopal Conference, invited the guerrillas to seize this opportunity, in which the intermediary has no political interest.

“If they accept that the church will lead and coordinate action, either for peace talks, or to negotiate a humanitarian agreement or release of hostages, then we will get started,” said the priest.
