Catalina Robayo hands over Miss Colombia crown

Colombia’s reigning beauty queen Catalina Robayo has made way for her successor in the national contest.

The 22 year-old from Cali handed over her crown in preparation for Monday’s Miss Colombia 2011 final in Cartagena.

Robayo told Caracol Radio her 365 days as Miss Colombia 2010 had taught her to be a more secure, mature woman with a better social conscience – and she was proud to have been named the country’s queen.

Prior to competing in Miss Colombia 2010, Robayo had a brief attempt in 2009. She stepped in to represent the Valle department when at the last minute the original Miss Valle, Diana Salgado, was deemed too fat to compete. But following a successful lawsuit Salgado won back her right to represent Valle, and replaced Robayo after just one week.

She became the center of controversy in April when she was photographed without any underwear while competing in the Miss Universe competition in Brazil.

Robayo has not revealed what she plans to do next, but before winning the title had completed eight semesters of a law degree at the Pontificia Javeriana University in Cali.
