Casanare governor dismissed over corruption charges

The governor of the central-east Colombian department of Casanare was dismissed Wednesday after being implicated in a corruption scandal.

Governor Oscar Raul Ivan Florez Chavez was dismissed by the Inspector General’s Office hours after the Constitutional Court ruled the temporary suspension of the governor was legal.

The Inspector General also barred Florez Chavez from holding public office for 11 years.

The now ex-governor is implicated in a scandal involving the illegal consessions of public works worth nearly $200 million.
