The tourist sector reacted first to the announcement of the movie’s title claiming that it would ruin the reputation of the Caribbean city.
“Cartagena does not deserve to be treated like this. It has the lowest incidence of drug trafficking, while there are a lot of cities in America which really suffer from this disease, so we reject stigmatization like this,” mayor Judith Pinedo told El Tiempo.
According to the mayor, the legal department is checking the possibility to officially complain about the title. They want Cartagena to be a synonym for beauty, culture and history, and not for Mafia and drug trafficking.
The movie is planned to be released in 2010 and is said to star Keanu Reeves.
