Cartagena – as beautiful as Miss Colombia competitors gathered there

At the time of the celebrated annual beauty pageant, Miss Colombia 2009, the host city Cartagena de Indias is reputed to be as beautiful and inviting as the female competitors gathered there.

The pageant, which has been escalating over the last month, has taken over an already beautiful and lively Caribbean hub with a lavish atmosphere, to match that of the beauties who have gathered there from all over Colombia, in the hope of being crowned Miss Colombia 2009.

The activity has been centered in La Heroica, the city’s stunning colonial quater and World Heritage site, where a series of parades, catwalks, competitions and social events have been taking place and a large number of places have opened their doors to welcome visitors.

The cobbled, lantern lit streets of the walled center of La Herioica offer a treasure chest of marvels to any tourist wanting to immerse themself in Colombian Caribbean life. There are a wide range of eateries and accommodation to cater for all tastes and more importantly, for all budgets, reported newspaper El Espectador Wednesday.

Traditional music emanates from every open window and live bands perform throughout the city every night.

A short way outside the city itself there lies the rustic, vibrant, Afro-Caribbean town of San Basilio de Palenque. Here everyday, in the central plaza, there are colourful dance performances presented by native Palenquenos, a people fiercely proud of their diverse heritage and culture.

The Caribbean Sea itself offers opportunities to take sailing trips to the gorgeous Rosario Islands where one can relax on pristine white-sand beaches as well as dive the teeming reefs of the Rosario National Park.

Cartageneros state five ways to enjoy the sea – kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, kayaking and sunfishing. Boats can be taken easily and cheaply from the mainland to prime locations for all of these activities.

The Cartagena region is heavily eager to encourage Ecotourism and environmentally conscious visitors. The nearby and much renowned Ecopark Moon Forest offers activities in stunning jungle scenery and the chance to spot exotic wildlife as well as eco-friendly accommodation.

In conclusion, the Miss Colombia 2009 grand finale will be held on Monday November 16 and it promises to be a stunning show. This is a perfect time to be visiting the Cartagena region where no doubt one will come away with an exaggerated sense of all things beautiful.
