Caribbean nations study Colombian medical tourism

Health officials from the Caribbean island nations of Antigua and Barbuda, and Barbados, visited Colombia to learn more about the Andean nation’s medical tourism industry.

According to website Absolut-Colombia, Colombia is recognized as a leader in the industry, due to its expertise in various specialized medical treatments.

“We came to see the medical facilities and get to know medical tourism in Colombia. We know that you are advancing well in the field, so we hope to learn from you and find good opportunities,” said Antigua and Barbuda’s Health Minister Wilmonth Daniel.

Foreigners are increasingly traveling to Colombia to undergo medical procedures, because Colombian prices are so competitive. For example, cosmetic surgery in Colombia costs around one quarter of the price it would cost in the U.S.

The Colombian government is promoting the Andean nation as a medical tourism destination, where visitors can receive treatments such as cosmetic surgery and dentistry.

The central Colombian city of Medellin in particular is promoting itself as a world class destination for clients seeking low-cost high-quality procedures.
