Caribbean coast holds documentary festival

The annual Locumental Documentary Festival opened on Colombia’s Caribbean coast on July 1, and for the first time includes educational events for children.

This is the festival’s third outing, after its beginnings in 2008 when the Alliance Francaise in Barranquilla teamed up with Caribbean Cinema to showcase local documentaries as well as others on such themes as globalization, music and the environment.

This year these topics will be re-explored, while adding a focus on youth education through seminars and forums that “combine entertainment and learning through audio-visual projections and academic processes that drive new ways of experiencing and imagining the world.”

The 2010 festival is covering all seven departments of the Caribbean region, including the islands of San Andres and Providencia, as well as activities in international locations such as Berlin, New York and Florence.

Admission to all events is free. Check the festival’s website for more information, or call (5) 301 4901, or 300 23 81 460.
