Cardinal talked to Alfonso Cano on the phone

Colombia’s catholic church confirmed that it had telephone contact with
Alfonso Cano, leader of the country’s largest rebel group.

According to cardinal Dario Castrillon, he spoke to Alfonso Cano and other guerrilla leaders on the phone to mediate peace.

The high clergy told Colombian media that his conversations with the guerrilla leader fell within the government’s authorization to mediate with the FARC.
