Canadian Senate President visits Colombia to discuss FTA

The president of the Canadian senate has met Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos to discuss the progress of the free trade agreement between the two countries.

Senate President Noel Kinsella and a delegation of senators also met with Vice President Angelino Garzon.

The Canadians discussed the trade pact in terms of human rights, labor rights and trade union rights.

The Canadian delegation, which includes Senator Joan Fraser and Senator Nancy Ruth, are to meet with Colombia’s Transport Minister German Cardona and other leaders in the transport sector to talk about facilitation of the transport of goods between the two nations.

The official visit began Monday and will end Friday. The free trade agreement between Colombia and Canada went in to effect on August 15, 2011.
