Canadian firm to begin joint venture with Cerrejon

Canada’s biggest engineering and construction company SNC-Lavalin Group has signed a contract to work with Colombian coal mining giant Cerrejon, Reuters reported Thursday.

For the joint venture, which is estimated to have a value of about $550,000 the first phase of the project, SNC-Lavalin will provide engineering and construction management for Cerrejon to expand mine facilities and infrastructure at Puerto Bolivar, Colombia.

The project is expected to increase the mine’s exports of coal from 40 to 60 million tons annually, SNC-Lavalin told Reuters.
