Cambio Radical and Liberals hold unification talks

Colombia news - German Vargas Lleras, Rafael Pardo

Colombia’s Cambio Radical and Liberal parties, which are both part of the governing “National Unity” coalition, will meet Tuesday to discuss a union between the two parties, W Radio reports.

Liberal Party leader Rafael Pardo said that his party hopes to advance talks on a possible alliance with the conservative Cambio Radical party. This agreement would make them the leading force within the “National Unity” government.

Pardo explains, “we are planning to act as a single bloc within Congress.”

Colombia’s President Juan Manual Santos on Wednesday insisted to media that his unity government is “alive and well.”

The governing coalition includes most of the major parties, including the Conservatives, Liberals, Partido de la U, and Cambio Radical.

On Wednesday, Colombia’s Congress threatened to strike over a delay on anti-corruption measures.
