Cambio Radical’s presidential candidate, German Vargas Lleras, on Monday announced that economist Elsa Noguera will run as his vice presidential candidate in Colombia’s upcoming elections, reported Colombian media.

Noguera, who has worked as an economist for 37 years, was previously the Treasury Secretary for the coastal city of Barranquilla, capital of the northern department of Atlantico.

According to Vargas Lleras the official demonstrated her credentials when she economically transformed the port city and “brought [it up] from bankruptcy.”

In a statement to reporters the presidential candidate said that Noguera had been selected due to her dedication to the policies of Cambio Radical and the fact that her political motivations were “the best possible.”

Noguera was also named finance minister in the event of the election of the Cambio Radical party.

Colombia’s presidential elections will take place in May.
